Don't waste it

Don't waste it

One of the beautiful things about living in the USA is that we have options for just about everything. We're a country of excess in every sense of the word regardless of our individual and personal struggles. I'm not suggesting that we don't have problems (5 minutes on social media will prove this to you). I'm simply acknowledging a part of the reality of what it's like to live here.

Truth is having the gift of choice is a blessing that none of us should take for granted. Still, I see nothing wrong with pointing out what we've all been guilty of at one point or another, which is treating Jesus Christ like He's just another option among all the others that we have the privilege of choosing from. Let's be real.

Today we might feast on the word of God. Tomorrow we might feast on the latest media gossip.

Today we might pray throughout the day to maintain our peace. Tomorrow we might complain all day and rob someone else of theirs.

Today we might've woken up and thanked God for our blessings. Tomorrow we might ignore Him and treat our blessings like a god.

Read the Bible and you'll see themes of everything that I mentioned above plus a lot more because there's nothing new under the sun (Ecclesiastes 1:9). Something is always fighting for our attention and allegiance, and if we're really being honest, we don't always put up a fight to keep our eyes on Jesus. As a matter of fact, some of us have even tried to justify why we can't give the LORD 100%. I mean, what does the King of kings and the LORD of lords expect? We've got blessings a, b, and c to manage not to mention the problems we got ourselves into that we're busy trying to solve.

Sidebar: If those last two sentences represent how you really feel, here's your confirmation that you sound crazy, and guess what? You didn't need to sow a seed to receive that prophetic word.

God has given us the option of resurrection and we must not waste it.

That's what the Holy Spirit reminded me of during worship yesterday morning. And may I remind you that we have a whole Savior who was lied on, jailed, beaten to a pulp, stripped of His dignity, nailed to a cross where He died and rose from the dead on the third day following His crucifixion, so that every human being on earth has a chance to live an abundant life. Yet, we have the nerve to consider denying Christ the chance to use us every day (which ultimately helps us by the way) for a bunch of people, places, and things that we have no real control over anyway.
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. - John 10:10

I'm not saying that God doesn't care about how we feel or that He expects us to neglect our responsibilities, so we can be in His face all day. However, the LORD does want us to be intentional about choosing Him every single day plus putting God first guarantees that we won't have to chase our blessings like unbelievers do. Instead, we can take comfort in the fact that since our focus is on Him, we won't ever be last to receive the good things that He has stored up for us. Remember all things work together for those that are willing to commit to getting it together.
