There was an incident that happened in my life recently that I sought the LORD about in prayer. Was it frustrating? Yes. Did I want to go off on someone? Sure. But 2 years ago, I made a commitment that I would go to God about everything that I feel tempted to get on the phone with a friend and vent about.
So, I presented my case to the Father over a 6-day period, and I asked a close friend to intercede for me as well. She advised me to find some scriptures to stand on and that's exactly what I did. One of the scriptures that came to my mind was 2 Chronicles 20 involving King Jehoshaphat and the tribe of Judah. When I turned to that chapter in my Bible and began reading, this is what I heard the Holy Spirit say when I got to verse 3...
You won't even have to fight.
I immediately wrote down what I heard in my Be Discerning Not Distracted journal. Plus, I had just finished praying to the LORD about the situation, so it was perfect timing. God was going to show me that He is indeed my defense and my shield, I just had to trust Him, which I do.
And now, here are the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir -- whom You would not let Israel invade when came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them and did not destroy them -- here they are, rewarding us by coming to throw us out of Your possession which You have given us to inherit. O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You." - 2 Chronicles 20:10-12
After I received confirmation from the Holy Spirit that the LORD would handle the situation for me, I let go and let God. I was confident that no matter how long it might take to get a resolution, I wouldn't have to pray about it again because the LORD had already gone before me. Thankfully, it didn't take much longer.
Later that evening at 7:08pm, I received an email from the other party apologizing for the error. They also assured me that they had already taken the necessary steps to fix it. The outcome of this situation is just one of many examples of what it looks like to give God the first and final say in your life. To trust Him so much that you refuse to let anything or anyone convince you to lean on your own understanding. As followers of Jesus Christ, fighting the good fight of faith means we pray, we fast, and we worship God before we worry (shout out to Tiphani Montgomery for that last piece of advice).
Just because we're at war with spirits and principalities in high places doesn't mean we can't war well. Instead, we have to maintain our posture of faith that God is backing us. We have to be careful not to get caught up in our feelings that we forget that the LORD is our fortress and our strength. He is our very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1), so it's important to be strong and of good courage. Remember our fights are His fight, we just have to trust & obey Him.
